Registration for the Winter Session of French Language is now open!

As detailed on the registration website above, we are enrolling for both morning and afternoon French classes for grades K-5 to be held at Discovery and taught by Berlitz language instructors.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. How frequently do the French sessions meet?
This winter, we are offering both morning and afternoon sessions. Each session includes twenty (20) one-hour classes that meet twice a week. Additionally, we plan to offer additional sessions in the Spring of 2025, so students can continue their French language learning journeys for the remainder of the school year.

2. Is prior French language experience required to enroll?
No prior experience is necessary. For students with no or nominal French language experience, simply enroll in one of the offered “Beginner” French sessions. In some cases, it may be appropriate to register your Grade 3-5 student for a “Continuing” French session, even where she/he was not enrolled in the Fall session. For questions or additional information, please contact carolinejouy@icloud.com.

3. What if the student has prior French language experience?
We are pleased to be offering a “Continuing” French session for Grade 3-5 students who previously enrolled in the Fall sessions or who have prior French experience.

4. Will students be in a classroom setting?
Classes will be taught in a Discovery classroom. Although the program involves singing and some limited movement, all students regardless of age group must be able to sit in a classroom setting for an hour without being disruptive.

5. What is the minimum enrollment needed for a session?
Berlitz must receive at least eight student registrations per class to offer the class. Each session can accommodate between eight and twelve children. Enrollment will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Berlitz will refund parents who register for a session that is not ultimately offered. Please register as soon as possible.

6. Where should afternoon session students meet their Berlitz French Instructor?
All afternoon session French students should meet their Berlitz French instructor at the base of the stairs by the gymnasium. The instructor will escort the students to the French classroom.

7. Where should morning session students proceed after French Class?
All morning session students will proceed directly from the French class to their Discovery homerooms.

8. Where should afternoon session students proceed after French Class?
Afternoon session Extended Day students will be escorted back to Extended Day after the French class. Afternoon session students who are not enrolled in Extended Day will be escorted to the Discovery front entrance by the Berlitz French instructor or designated coordinator and must be picked up promptly at 5:00 pm.
