We have immediate openings for the opportunities listed below.
New opportunities are added periodically, so check back often.
VP of Fundraising
The VP of Fundraising is a member of the PTA board. This position:
- Oversees and assists volunteers leading PTA fundraisers (Parent Auction, Restaurant Nights, Spirit Wear/Merch, Book Fair, School Supplies, etc.)
- Works with President and Treasurer to budget for fundraisers.
- Oversees spending budgets for all fundraising events
- Oversees marketing of fundraisers including posting updates in newsletters and social media
- Provides updates on fundraising activities at PTA meetings.
The term is 1 year, renewable for an additional term.
Time Commitment: 5-8 hours per week
This involves organizing and overseeing things like parent coffees, annual teacher back-to-school breakfast, teacher coffee cart for P/T conferences, etc. You would make sure the events are staffed with volunteers and run smoothly. There would not be more than one event/month.
Time Commitment: 2-4 hours/month (some months would not have any commitments)
Bingo Night Coordinator
We are seeking a volunteer to plan Bingo Night in mid-October. Responsibilities include working with a local pizza place and assisting with pre-orders of pizzas; setting up for the event; and serving as the point of contact at the event. Everyone loves Bingo Night, this event is a hit!
Time Commitment: 4-5 hours total over the course of 3 weeks
Graphic Design Volunteer
Assist the PTA in making signs, flyers, and graphics as needed to promote community events and fundraising efforts. Fancy design skills not required!
Time Commitment: 2 hours/month
Parent Social and Auction Coordinator
The Parent Social and Auction will be held in May 2022. We are looking for someone to oversee this event, which will include managing other volunteers. Duties include soliciting items for the silent auction; securing caterers; seeking sponsorship; organizing event decor and layout; and managing marketing and ticket sales. It is a big job but will have many people working on it.
Time Commitment: The time commitment will gradually build. In the fall, 2-3 hours/week is likely. In the month leading up to the event, 10-12 hours/week is possible.
The yearbook adviser will take the lead on producing the 2021-2022 yearbook. In addition to a parent volunteer, we will be reaching out to a staff member to serve as co-advisor. The team at Memory Book-Jostens is fantastic and offers an easy, online system to build the yearbook and monitor sales...so no experience is necessary! The software and design templates are easy to use.
Time Commitment: Variable* (2-8 hours/month)
*This position is what you make of it. In some years, Discovery students have been heavily involved in taking photos, arranging layouts, and learning graphic design, which require significant volunteer time to supervise. In other years, the co-advisors oversee most of the process, which requires less time.
Help support our teachers by serving as room parent! The room parent(s) will help organize seasonal celebrations; coordinate activities at the teacher's request; and organize Teacher Appreciation Week activities on behalf of the class.
Time Commitment: Variable. Up to 4 hours/month, but many months will require an hour or less.
Have questions? Want to volunteer but not sure what you're committing to? Just ask!
