Volunteering

Get involved little or as much as you like!

When adults volunteer, all students benefit! There are many opportunities for parents and community members to get involved!  Your help is needed!  Complete the Volunteer Interest form and we will be in touch with you.

We are still seeking volunteers to serve as Room Parents for the following grades/classes:

  • Pre-K (Anthony)
  • Kindergarten (Whittington)
  • 1st Grade (Upshur, Wright)
  • 2nd Grade (Knowlan, Kuleski, Stein)
  • 3rd Grade (Alverson, Clark, Stoker, Stuver)
  • 4th Grade (Appaiah, Rollheiser, Timke, Vincent)
  • 5th Grade (Bridges, Oby, Olmstead, Standley, Zarkowsky)

As a Room Parent, you’ll help to organize teacher gifts and teacher appreciation week activities; communicate with classroom parents about PTA events, fundraisers, and requests; and help coordinate volunteers for classroom help. If you are interested, please reach out directly to your child’s teacher.

Volunteer spotlight

We are going to start highlighting some of the awesome members who make possible all the PTA programs you and your kids love.

Join us in thanking Elaine Broughan!

How many kids do you have at Discovery and what grade(s)?

This is our first year at Discovery! Teddy is in Kindergarten in Mr. Whittington's class.

What is your (and your child’s) favorite part about Discovery?

I love how much communication there is both from the teacher/school and the PTA. We have so many opportunities to hear about what's happening in the classrooms, which is great when your kindergartner answers your questions with just one word. Teddy's favorite thing so far is the slide - also P.E.!

How did you get started volunteering with the PTA?

I have no idea how I became Hospitality Chair before we even started at the school! I blame it on knowing the right (or wrong) people. :)

What would you say to parents thinking about volunteering at Discovery?

It doesn't have to be a big commitment - there are so many ways to contribute and feel more connected to the Discovery community. Many hands make light work, so please volunteer!
