Meet the Team

Welcome everyone, as we kick off the fifth year of Discovery Elementary School!

We look forward to connecting with new families, as well as reconnecting with old friends, at exciting PTA sponsored events throughout the school year!

The PTA is only as good as our volunteer community! As you browse through our yearly calendar, reach out to us if anything strikes your fancy. Even a few hours of your time makes a huge difference in providing the quality activities we hope to Discovery Elementary families. I promise there is a volunteer opportunity that has your name written all over it!

The board looks forward to meeting you and your kids — click here to meet us — at the Ice Cream Social, followed by the first PTA Meeting of the year on Tuesday, September 17 (details below). We only have five PTA meetings this year, so let’s make every one count.

Cheers,
Adam Simkin

Ice Cream Social and FIRST PTA Meeting of the Year

Join us for an Ice Cream Social (6:00 pm) followed by a PTA Meeting (7:00 - 8:00 pm) on Tuesday, September 17th.

Have some ice cream, get social and stick around for our first PTA meeting of the year (child care is provided). If you are able to leave your children at home, join us for a parents' social after the meeting at Taqueria el Poblano in the Lee Harrison shopping center.

Family Bingo Night is October 2

Join us for Family Bingo Night* on Wednesday, October 2, from 6:30 - 8:00 pm in the Dining Commons.

Admission is FREE! All ages welcome! Bingo cards and markers will be provided. PRIZES for Bingo Winners!

*Please be aware that this is not a drop-off event. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Volunteers Needed: Have Fun and Make Friends!

PumpkinFest - Save the Date: October 20!

Discovery PTA will host its 5th annual PumpkinFest on the Discovery grounds. Our Fall fair kicks off with a Halloween costume parade and contest. Please plan to join your Discovery community for a fun filled afternoon of moon-bounces, games, cake walk, pumpkin decorating, raffle, food trucks and more!

We will need lots of volunteers to make this a success! Watch this space for a Sign Up form coming soon...

Food Bus Volunteers Needed on Fridays

Discovery students are learning how to build community and reduce waste in their lunch by collecting items that have not been eaten and would normally be thrown out. These items are then donated at the end of each week to Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC). Last year, Discovery donated over 3000 pounds of food!

Weekly volunteers from the Discovery parent community pick up and deliver the collected food each Friday. Sign up to volunteer - show your kids where all those unwanted lunch items go and how their actions (big and small) can make a HUGE difference!

This is a terrific, short-term (FRIDAY, 3:45PM -4:30PM), hands-on service experience for families, individuals and student groups.

Sign up to volunteer – THANK YOU!

Questions? Contact Dimitry Beauchamp at dimitry.beauchamp@gmail.com.

Stay tuned for more volunteer opportunities!

Discovery PTA Enrichment Programs

Registration is OPEN!
The Discovery PTA and Baroody Camps are pleased to present a variety of After-School Enrichment Programs for our students. The goal of these programs is to offer a diverse set of activities that encourage a love of learning, creativity, curiosity, development of skills, character building, and fun. All classes take place at Discovery Elementary School from 4-5 pm.

Click here to register and reserve your child's spot.

Baroody also offers camps to extend your child's day during all of Discovery's half days, as well as full day camps on teacher work days and some holidays.

Dot Day is Tomorrow!

For our fifth year, we are celebrating International Dot Day on Friday, September 13th. This day is inspired by the book, The Dot by Peter Reynolds. Teachers will be doing activities on students' hopes and dreams, and how they will make their mark on the 2018-2019 school year. Please feel free to do your own dot activities at home, bring in your own creative dot to share with the classroom and wear your own dot fashion creations on the 15th. Check out this video for some inspiration.
