This is our final summer newsletter, as we all get ready to head back to school on September 3rd. It includes some quick updates, events coming up and things the PTA thinks you all should know.
Also, please take a few minutes to renew or become a new member of the Discovery PTA! The Discovery community needs you!
Start the Year Right: Volunteer!
Two important things about volunteering: 1) it's fun and 2) it makes a big difference in your child(ren)'s experience at Discovery!
Before school even starts, there are two opportunities to pitch in!
Next Tuesday, August 27th, we will be delivering the school supply kits to each classroom that many of us pre-ordered over the summer. If you have time between 10:00am and 1:00pm, we'd love the help (kids can volunteer with you too)! Sign up for a shift here.
On Thursday, August 29th during the Discovery Open House, sign up for a 20 minute shift to man the sales tables for grade-level t-shirts and Discovery merchandise. Your help will ensure the rest of our PTA board and committee members are able to participate in the open house with their children.
Take your volunteering game up a notch and join the Discovery PTA board.
We NEED someone to step up and take on the Corresponding Secretary: Community Event Lead
role. This position is one-part cheerleader/one-part extra hand. The person in this position oversees and assists volunteers leading all of our PTA Community Events including Bingo Night, DJ Dance Party, 5th Grade Promotion, World Heritage Night, Ice Cream Socials, etc. Please contact Adam Simkin (President@DiscoveryPTA.org
) to learn more.
Another volunteer opportunity:
Take on the role of Newsletter Editor
! Training provided. Contact Amber at email@example.com
for the details.
Stay tuned for more volunteer opportunities!

Discovery PTA Enrichment Programs
As you're making plans for after school activities and half days/holidays, keep in mind the PTA-sponsored enrichment activities in partnership with Baroody Camps. A variety of fun and educational classes are offered right at Discovery from 4-5pm almost every day throughout the school year.
Class options will be posted this week. Registration for the fall opens September 8th.
Baroody also offers camps to extend your child's day during all of Discovery's half days, as well as full day camps on teacher work days and some holidays. Visit their website for more information.
Summer Play Dates
We still have a few more opportunities for our Rising Kindergarten and Rising First Grade families to get together in the last few days of summer. Note the dates above and see the PTA calendar
for all the details including locations and times.
Summer Reading Nights
All are welcome for the last Summer Reading Night
on Wednesday, August 28th
. The annual tradition of Discovery teachers and administrators reading stories will run from 6:30 PM until 7:30 PM at the Westover Library.
Cub Scout BBQ
Cub Scout Pack 641 (Discovery and Jamestown) is hosting their annual Welcome to Scouting BBQ on Saturday September 7 from 2:00 – 6:00 at 4284 38th St. N.
If you’re curious about scouting, this is a great event to meet other families and learn about the types of activities we do every year. If you have any questions, please contact the BBQ POC: John Fanguy firstname.lastname@example.org.
Interested in being a Girl Scout Daisy at Discovery?
