Events & Programs
Discovery's Fall Carnival!

Thank you to everyone who donated, bought tickets, volunteered, and attended this past weekend's Discovery 10th Anniversary Carnival! The event was a huge success, and thanks to the ticket sales we were able to raise funds for the PTA and save on volunteer manpower hours by hiring a company to help us pull it off.

We have more 10 year celebrations coming, so stay tuned!

"DISCOChat" Series - Send in Your Suggestions!

Our first DISCOchat on Advanced Academics (formerly called “gifted”) with Ms. Stoker on October 25 was a great success. If you missed it, check out the presentation

We are looking forward to hosting more of this series, featuring discussions with admin, teachers, and staff, throughout the year. Do you have an idea for a DISCOchat topic? Email president@discoverypta.org!

No Frills: We Need Your Help!

We are now 1/3rd of the way to meeting our fundraising goal for our 2024 No Frills Fundraiser. Thank you to everyone who has already made a donation to support PTA enrichement events for our students, like our Family STEM Night next spring, and ongoing STEM resources!

Have you made your donation yet?

Donate here!

Don't forget - the grade level with the highest total of donations will get to choose this year's yearbook cover.

Thank you for supporting our teachers and students!

November is Native American Heritage Month

Discovery Elementary School students are celebrating by reading various books about Native Americans and/or published by Native American authors and learning about Native American traditions and famous figures.

Find events near by that are celebrating Native American Heritage Month!

Halloween Candy Collection

Looking to offload your extra Halloween candy?!? Come feed The Discovery Candy Monster (located in the front atrium). All the candy we collect will be donated to Bridges to Independence.  Reminder, no candy with nuts.

The collection will run November 6th through November 15th

Discovery Elementary Coat Drive!

Help keep Arlington kids warm this winter! Discovery Elementary School is organizing a coat drive to provide coats and jackets to local children who need them.

We’ll be collecting children’s coats at Discovery from Wednesday, November 6 through Tuesday, December 3rd. Donation bins will be located in the school Lobby and near Door 6.

If your family has gently used children’s coats in good condition, please consider donating. We are accepting coats and winter jackets that are clean and undamaged (with all zippers/buttons functional). Coats will be donated to The Clothesline for Arlington Kids. The Clothesline collects quality clothing from the community and distributes it free of charge to low-income, school-aged children in a welcoming store. Your donation will go directly to helping a child stay warm and comfortable during the colder months. Let’s come together to make a difference!

Next PTA Meeting is November 12th

Our next PTA meeting will be held on November 12th, at 7 pm  and will include a presentation by DMV Unplugged on the topic of kids and screens. We hope you can join us!

Save the Date: Bingo!

Save the date for Family BINGO Night on Thursday, November 14th at 6 pm!

Reflections Entries Deadline Coming Up Nov 18th

The theme for this year’s Reflections program is “Accepting Imperfection.” The program provides opportunities for recognition and access to the arts which boost student confidence and success in the arts and in life. Students can participate in the division for their grade and submit one completed work in one or each of the available arts categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography and Visual Arts.

Entries will be due November 18th. More information can be found under the Programs tab on the PTA website. If you have questions or are interested, please reach out to Kimberly Burham or Lou Elin Najmi at reflections@discoverypta.org
