Hispanic Heritage Month is Sept 15 - Oct 15

September 15th through October 15th is Hispanic Heritage Month. Discovery Elementary School students are celebrating by reading various books published by Hispanic authors, learning about famous Hispanic figures, and making a Hispanic Heritage Month mosaic for their classroom. Learn more about how Arlington Public Schools are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month!

Ms. Stewart will be hosting a Military Family Coffee Social on Sept 24th from 9:00 to 10:00 am in the Blue Sky Studio. Come out to meet her and connect with other military and foreign service families.

Sloppy Mama's Restaurant Night on Sept 25th

Take the night off from cooking to support the Discovery PTA. The PTA will receive a portion of the proceeds from 11 am to 8 pm at Sloppy Mamas on September 25th. Mention Discovery when you place your order!

Odyssey of the Mind

Do your kids like to think creatively? Develop out of the box solutions? Odyssey of the Mind (OM) is an international creative problem-solving program for students in. Teams are made up of 5-7 Discovery kids, usually from the same or similar grade levels, that work together to create solutions to problems using building, painting, storytelling, and other skills.  OM teams are formed in the fall and meet throughout fall and winter, with the experience culminating in a friendly regional competition in early spring.

Parent involvement is key!!!!  OM is truly a team effort. The kids will do all the thinking, creating, failing, succeeding, but we need plenty of adults to help make that magic happen. We can only have teams if parents volunteer to coach, judge, etc.

To learn more, join us for a virtual information meeting on Thursday, Sept 26th at 7:30 pm.

You can also complete this Interest Form. If you have any questions, please contact Lexi Bonura alexandra.bonura@gmail.com

Seeking Sponsors and Volunteers for Discovery's Fall Carnival

Did you know we’re having a big party to celebrate Discovery’s 10th year? In lieu of Pumpkinfest, we’re having a CARNIVAL this year! The event will be held on October 27th from 12 -2 pm

We plan to have lots of fun and games in booths, along with bounce houses. We’re also planning on bringing back the beloved Cake Walk!

But we need your help! Do you own, or do you know of, a business that would like to sponsor a booth? Would you like to help plan or to sign up for a shift to help the day-of?

Please reach out to explorerevents@discoverypta.org for more info! We’d love to have you on board!
