  • Wednesday Twilight Tattoo (Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Summerall Field; parades every Wednesday through July at 7:00 pm, schedule on EventBrite; tickets from EventBrite required; ensembles featured: The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own,” The U.S. Army Blues, The U.S. Army Band Downrange, The Commander-in-Chief’s Guard, The U.S. Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, and The U.S. Army Drill Team)
  • Friday Evening Parades (Marine Barracks Washington; parades every Friday at 8:45 pm through August 23; reserve tickets in advance online; ensembles featured: The President’s Own, The Commandant’s Own [Mrs. Hutto’s husband is in this!], and The Silent Drill Platoon)

Interested in Spanish Language Instruction?

The PTA is working with Berlitz, a foreign language education company, to provide Spanish language instruction at Discovery this fall. The plan is to offer afternoon and morning sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays for kindergarten through 5th grade, divided by age into two groups.

We anticipate opening registration in the summer and enrollment will be provided on a first come, first served basis.  Please contact PTA foreign language coordinator Brian Young at Brian.reese.young@gmail.com with questions.

Back-to-School Supply Kits Available – Order Now

A quick reminder to skip the stores and save both time and money on back-to-school shopping with a Sprout School Supply Kit. These kits are teacher-approved, matching our Discovery supply lists and will be delivered to school and ready for the first day.

Again this school year, we will be offering families the opportunity to Pay It Forward and purchase an additional school supply kit to donate to a deserving child at our local school if they are interested. All Pay It Forward Kits will be provided to the administration at the close of our sale and distributed to local students, so they are all set for the first day.

Order now at sproutsupplies.com using School Code DES002. Order deadline is July 9, 2024.

Discovery parent Laura Sawyer is organizing a book drive to collect like-new books that you no longer need and donate them to Title 1 schools in Arlington.

You can drop off board books, picture books, and chapter books all summer on the front porch ar 5226 36th Street North (fenced yard across the street from Discovery).
