Thank you Discovery families for your generosity! So far, we have raised nearly 70% of what we need to host a Discovery STEM Night in the spring. We have six days left to reach our fundraising goal.

Please donate to the Discovery PTA’s No Frills fundraiser if you can. Future Discovery innovative scientists, tech gurus, engineering geniuses, and math wizards thank you!

All donations are tax deductible. The PTA is a 501(c)3 organization that is eligible for corporate matching donations.

PumpkinFest Volunteers Needed!

PumpkinFest 2023 will kick off this Sunday, October 29th, at 11:00am on the back veranda Astro turf field.

We are excited to welcome back the Yorktown High School Marching Band, who will be leading our Explorer costume parade around the building, ending at the Explorer Car Loop where the festivities will begin.

Explorers will go around to six different themed stations and collect seed paper tokens and stamps in their event passport (distributed at the event). Once they have collected all six seed tokens they will plant them in their labeled grade level class planter.

Other activities include festival games, a pumpkin patch, photo area, bake sale, face painting, bounce houses, and food trucks. There will also be a pumpkin decorating contest. All pumpkins should be labeled and dropped off by 10:30am the morning of the event.

We need YOUR help to make this event successful!

Taco Bamba Restaurant Night 10/30

Join us Monday, October 30th from 9 am-9 pm at the Falls Church Taco Bamba (2190 Pimmitt Drive).

If your family is planning on dining in, please tell the cashier that you are part of the Discovery Fundraiser. If you are ordering online, remember to include the word, DISCOVERY, in the coupon code area when checking out.

As an added bonus, the DISCOVERY code can also be applied to any gift card purchase on the 30th as well!

Annual Coat Drive Starts 11/6

Our Annual Winter Coat Drive begins on Monday, November 6th.

This year’s recipient is The Clothesline for Arlington Kids (Clothesline is Arlington’s first free clothing store dedicated to school-aged children).

Our colorful Coat Drive collection boxes will be present in the front atrium of the school, as well as at the Extended Day back entrance until Friday, December 1st.

In keeping with our Green School ethos, we ask that donations include GENTLY used coats (with no rips, stains, or broken zippers), or new coats. Thank you!

Bingo Night on November 9

Join us for an evening of wholesome family Bingo fun, in the Discovery Dining Commons on Thursday, November 9th (from 6-7:30 pm). This is one of our most popular events, so be there or be square! Also, as an added bonus, we will have a surprise bingo caller!

Siblings are welcome.

This is not a drop off event.

World Heritage Week and Dinner Celebration

Discovery will have a week-long recognition of World Heritage from November 13th - 17th, 2023!

We are requesting that parents and guardians come in to help share a culture of significance to them in the classrooms. The individual classrooms will have a volunteer sign up for that portion.

Then we will end the week with a World Heritage Dinner Celebration on Friday, November 17, 2023, from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. This year we are asking for families to sign up to bring food, share an activity, or share a performance. Please sign up by November 9th.

We look forward to seeing you there and celebrating a host of cultures within our Discovery community!

Save the Date: Discovery Auction is 2/24!

Save the date for the Discovery annual auction on February 24, 2024 from 7 pm to 12 am. We are embracing popular culture with a Barbie-themed evening, interpretations of this theme are welcome and encouraged.

Your presence and participation will play a significant role in building a brighter future for our children's education through supporting the PTA and the important programs it funds.

Let's come together, embrace the spirit of Barbie, and empower our school community!

Volunteers Needed

The PTA needs a variety of volunteers in both leadership and support roles. Please take a look at our volunteer page to see a full list of available jobs and choose a task that fits your skills. Help us pull off the many amazing events and programs we have planned for this school year!

Just a reminder, in order to volunteer in the school building, parents or guardians must fill out a volunteer application every two years, and the required training is valid for three years.
