Last Restaurant Night of the Year: Chip City Cookies, 5/16

Calling all Discovery families - join us for the final PTA restaurant night of the year at:

Chip City Cookies in Clarendon
(2700 Clarendon Blvd.)
TONIGHT, May 16th from 4 to 7 pm!

Discovery will receive ALL in-store proceeds from anything sold in the store from 4 to 7 pm.

The goal is to sell Chip City Cookies out of everything from cookies to water to merch! Come get some yummy treats. We hope to see you there!

Military Family Playdate - Thursday, May 23rd

Attention Military Families! Join us for our final afterschool playdate of the year on May 23rd, Thursday, at 4 pm! One last chance to make some connections before some of us PCS. We will meet on the playground by the gym, all ages/grades are welcome. Embassy, State Department and foreign affairs families are welcome as well! We look forward to seeing you there!

Next PTA Meeting is May 30th

At the May 30^th PTA meeting we will elect PTA board members for the upcoming school year. Nominations for all positions are now being accepted. Interested in joining the PTA Board or learning more? Please reach out to Nicole on the nominating committee at Nicole.Schaltenbrand@outlook.com.

Also on the agenda will be a discussion of the Math Curriculum, led by Principal Dr. Healy. If you have any questions regarding math instruction, please send them to president@discoverypta.org.

Back-to-School Supply Kits Available – Order Now

A quick reminder to skip the stores and save both time and money on back-to-school shopping with a Sprout School Supply Kit. These kits are teacher-approved, matching our Discovery supply lists and will be delivered to school and ready for the first day.

Again this school year, we will be offering families the opportunity to Pay It Forward and purchase an additional school supply kit to donate to a deserving child at our local school if they are interested. All Pay It Forward Kits will be provided to the administration at the close of our sale and distributed to local students, so they are all set for the first day.

Ongoing Opportunities

Discovery Gardens Parent Workgroup

Join us every Tuesday morning in the garden from 9 - 10 am through the end of the school year. We will support the students' and teachers' vision to plan and maintain the raised beds. Be a part of Discovery's sustainability mission and curriculum!

Volunteers Needed

The PTA needs a variety of volunteers in both leadership and support roles. Please take a look at our volunteer page to see a full list of available jobs and choose a task that fits your skills. Help us pull off the many amazing events and programs we have planned for this school year!

Just a reminder, in order to volunteer in the school building, parents or guardians must fill out a volunteer application every two years, and the required training is valid for three years.
