Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6-10

Sunday, 5/5	Chalk the Sidewalk & Post Signs with messages of appreciation to welcome the Discovery team to teacher appreciation week.
Monday, 5/6	Breakfast for Teachers and Staff (coffee, donuts, yogurt parfait bar)
Tuesday, 5/7	Small Teacher Care Packages left on their desks
Wed, 5/8	Italian Store Lunch (asking families to donate drinks and desserts-- see Sign Up Genius link below)
Thursday, 5/9	Raffle (gift cards and other prizes)
Friday, 5/10	Show your love for your teachers! Explorers are encouraged to bring in cards, notes, or drawings for their teachers on Friday.

Volunteer Opportunities!

We are asking families to contribute drinks and desserts. Please specify in the comments what items you will be bringing. Homemade or store bought items are appreciated. Food Items must be nut-free and labeled. You may drop items at the front office on Tuesday during school hours or on Wednesday morning before 11.

We are also looking for anyone available to help setup and/or clean up on Wednesday. Please contact president@discoverypta.org if you're able to help out. Thanks!

Next PTA Meeting is May 30th

At the May 30^th PTA meeting we will elect PTA board members for the upcoming school year. Nominations for all positions are now being accepted.

Rising K Play Date on Sat, 5/11

The next rising Kindergarten playdate will take place on May 11 at 10 am on the Kindergarten playground. Please help spread the word to anyone you know who has a rising Discovery Kindergartner.

Save the Date for PTA Night at Chip City Cookies Clarendon on 5/16

Calling all Discovery families - join us for the final PTA restaurant night of the year at Chip City Cookies in Clarendon on Thursday, May 16th from 4 to 7 pm! See the flyer.

Discovery will receive ALL in-store proceeds from anything sold in the store from 4 to 7 pm. The goal is sell Chip City Cookies out of everything from cookies to water to merch! Come get some yummy treats. We hope to see you there!

Ongoing Opportunities

Discovery Gardens Parent Workgroup

Join us every Tuesday morning in the garden from 9 - 10 am through the end of the school year. We will support the students' and teachers' vision to plan and maintain the raised beds. Be a part of Discovery's sustainability mission and curriculum!

Food Bus Volunteers Needed

During the school year, Discovery students donate over 2,800 pounds of food to AFAC (Arlington Food Assistance Program) through the Discovery Food Bus Program.

We need volunteers (parents and kids!) to drive the donations to AFAC on Fridays anytime between 2-4 pm!

Volunteers Needed

The PTA needs a variety of volunteers in both leadership and support roles. Please take a look at our volunteer page to see a full list of available jobs and choose a task that fits your skills. Help us pull off the many amazing events and programs we have planned for this school year!

Just a reminder, in order to volunteer in the school building, parents or guardians must fill out a volunteer application every two years, and the required training is valid for three years.
