Rising-K families, please join us for our first play date of the upcoming 2024/25 school year this Sunday, April 7th at 10:00 a.m. We will gather on Discovery’s kindergarten playground (facing 36th St. N.) for a few hours of child and adult socialization, siblings are welcome. In the meantime, please encourage your neighbors to register with Sandra Amores in the Discovery front office as soon as possible. 

Join us Tuesday, April 16th, for our monthly PTA Meeting in the Dining Commons, starting at 7:00 pm. General updates and new business will be discussed. 

Also, our guest speaker, Todd Tuitt (Discovery’s ACTL representative), will speak on concerns in Discovery’s math performance data, specifically math performance scores for Discovery vs. other North Arlington schools on the SOL exams and the Math Inventory academic screener, a broader description is available here. 

This meeting will also be simulcast on Zoom, a link will be released on the PTA website the morning of the 16th. 

Last year yearbooks sold out, so don’t wait to order yours!

When you visit the memory book website for the first time, you will need to register. Discovery’s School Code is 154147M. Orders must be placed by April 18th, 2024.Yearbooks will be delivered to your student’s classroom at the end of the year.

Each year one Arlington County school is chosen to host an Arbor Day Celebration. This year that school is Discovery Elementary, yay us! 

APS Cabinet and School Board members will make remarks before the celebration, the morning of April 19th at 9:15, by the Solar Plaza. We will ceremoniously plant a tree and listen to a 4th grade ukulele performance and poetry readings. Parents are welcome to attend. 

Our Discovery Gardening crew is in need of cardboard egg carton boxes to plant seedlings, and then transplanted in the Discovery Garden. Egg carton donations can turned into the front office, or walked down to Mrs. Hutto’s room (124). Thank you in advance! 

Fun Fact: Did you know that the clothing industry pumps 1.22 - 2.93 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere yearly, accounting for 6.7% of all global greenhouse gas emissions?

Do you have any clothes that CANNOT be donated - stained, ripped, holes? 

Please donate pre-washed clothing in our front office box. We will be transforming the textile waste into weaving during our weaving unit in Art! The box will be there until mid to late April. 

The PTA needs a variety of volunteers in both leadership and support roles. Please take a look at our volunteer page to see a full list of available jobs and choose a task that fits your skills. Help us pull off the many amazing events and programs we have planned for this school year! 

Just a reminder, in order to volunteer in the school building, parents or guardians must fill out a volunteer application every two years, and the required training is valid for three years.
