Tomorrow is your last chance to help out our Discovery families in need.

 Purchasing a Target, Amazon, Walmart, or any local grocery store gift card in the amount of $25 or $50 can go a long way this holiday season. 

Gift cards can be dropped off in our collection boxes in the front office, or you can order a gift card online and have it sent to Discovery ES (5241 North 36th Street, Arlington, VA, 22207, c/o Discovery PTA).

Our Annual Winter Coat Drive wraps up tomorrow. This year’s recipient is The Clothesline for Arlington Kids (Clothesline is Arlington’s first free clothing store dedicated to school-aged children).

Our Coat Drive collection boxes are located in the front atrium of the school, as well as at the Extended Day entrance. So far we’ve collected over 50 coats, let’s see if we can’t collect 50 more!

In keeping with our Green School ethos, we ask that donations include GENTLY used coats (with no rips, stains, or broken zippers), new coats welcome too. 

If you missed picture day or would like another chance to nail your smile, our professional yearbook photographers will be back at Discovery on Friday, December 8th. 

If your child is having their picture taken, please email their teacher to inform them. 

We are grateful for the 44 Reflections submissions this year! 

Judging is currently taking place, and students with Outstanding Interpretations of the theme will advance to the county PTA level. In the meantime, we are looking forward to celebrating with all Discovery students who submitted artwork, along with their parents/caregivers on Monday, December 11th (from 8:30-9:15am), in the Dining Commons. 

Eat lunch or dinner at Taqueria el Poblano on December 13th between 11:30 am and 9 pm! Order in-person or online and mention Discovery ES PTA Fundraiser, and 20% of your check will be donated! 

Has your child lost their favorite coat, sweatshirt or water bottle? Lost and Found is overflowing with items that are looking for their owners.

 Please claim your items before Friday, December 15th at 6 pm, at which point they will be donated to The Clothesline for Arlington Kids. As a reminder, please make an effort to put your child's name on any item they may bring to school.  

Does it get any better than wearing your pajamas to school!?! We think not! Our most popular Spirit Day theme (with both teachers and Explorers alike), takes place on Wednesday, December 20th. 

The PTA needs a variety of volunteers in both leadership and support roles. Please take a look at our volunteer page to see a full list of available jobs and choose a task that fits your skills. Help us pull off the many amazing events and programs we have planned for this school year! 

Just a reminder, in order to volunteer in the school building, parents or guardians must fill out a volunteer application every two years, and the required training is valid for three years. 

Save the date for the Discovery annual auction on February 24, 2024 from 7 pm to 12 am. We are embracing popular culture with a Barbie-themed evening, interpretations of this theme are welcome and encouraged. 

Your presence and participation will play a significant role in building a brighter future for our children's education through supporting the PTA and the important programs it funds.
