AFAC DONATION COLLECTION

During a typical school year, Discovery students donate over 2,800 pounds of unwanted, unopened lunch items to AFAC (Arlington Food Assistance Program) through the AFAC School Bus Program. Now though, we are living in a virtual school world, but AFAC still needs our donations more than ever. This is where our wonderful Discovery Community can help:

Families are encouraged to drop off AFAC donations during our Library Grab & Go’s on Wednesdays (from 2:30-4 pm) and Thursdays (from 11-11:50 am). During non-school hours, an AFAC donation bin will be located outside, next to Door #10.

AFAC current needs: low sugar & low sodium tuna, soups, vegetables, tomatoes, peanut butter, cereal.**Opened, expired, prepared meals or glass containers cannot be accepted.**

If you or someone you know needs food assistance, please reach out to AFAC, 703.845.8486 afac.org

AFAC COMMUNITY BOXES

Looking for another way to support our community? Consider placing an AFAC food donation box outside your home so neighbors and friends can contribute! We will supply the AFACboxes; each family that participates can determine their schedule for dropping off goods at AFAC. If interested, please contact Dimitry Beauchamp, dimitry.beauchamp@gmail.com.

BARCROFT WEEKEND BAGS

This is an exciting new program in response to AFAC’s need to discontinue their Backpack Buddies program. The Barcroft PTA and Communities in Schools bonded together to create weekend grocery kits for students.  The Discovery PTA has now partnered with Barcroft PTA to help support this program through the CCPTA Partnerships committee - whose mission is to help Arlington schools and PTAs work together to share resources, support one another and build a stronger sense of community cohesiveness through mutually beneficial partnerships. Discovery will be collecting donated, prepacked grocery kits and delivering to Barcroft every week.
